Australia terminates player’s contract because of anti-gay message

The Australian rugby union authorities have put to end Israel Folau’s contract over a post he made on social media which he said “hell awaits” gay people.

According to the law, he has 48 hours to accept his sacking, or face a code of conduct hearing soonest.

Rugby Australia said the 30-year-old “had committed a high-level breach of the Professional Players’ Code of Conduct warranting termination of his employment contract“.

He has won 73 caps and is supposed to participate in this year’s World Cup in Japan.
